Retro Atari Classics was a game released on the Nintendo DS in 2005. At the time, the handheld was not even a year old and developers were still getting used to its capabilities. One of those developers was Omar Cornut, who was a part of Taniko, the team that developed Retro Atari Classics. Although he now works for Lizardcube and is directing Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap, Cornut took a moment to recall what it was like developing Retro Atari Classics with USGamer. The game was in development before the public had even known about the DS, and it turns out that Taniko didn’t have the whole story on the DS either. Cornut said that “when we started working on the game, the DS had one screen. Nintendo, I think they always do this with consoles, we had a single screen DS for six months. A month before they announced the DS, they told us, 'Oh, by the way, there's a second screen on the DS. Enjoy remaking your game.' The game was rubbish, but was interesting."
