If you own an original 3DS and it’s packed up it’s worth noting Nintendo won’t be repairing your system, according to their official American support page for the 3DS. It’s unclear as to why this may be but I hazard a guess it’s to do with the newer model recently being announced thus prompting Nintendo to carefully reevaluate their repairing resources.

Note About Original Nintendo 3DS Repairs: Nintendo no longer offers factory repairs for the original Nintendo 3DS system. Newer Nintendo 3DS family products (including the Nintendo 3DS XL and Nintendo 2DS) are still being repaired. If you aren’t sure which system you have, check the serial number on the back of your system. If the serial number begins with CW, you have an original Nintendo 3DS system. Click here for information on replacement or upgrade options.
